El Salvador Las Delicias Producers Visit
Miguel and Guillermo Menéndez, producers of our El Salvador Las Delicias, stopped by this morning—what an unexpected treat! In addition to giving us a photo tour of their lovely farms, they told us colorful stories about the coffee growing tradition in their family and their country. We were intrigued by the amazing attention to detail in the production process. It’s no wonder that the Las Delicias is so juicy! Because they mill their own coffee, they have complete traceability from very small sub-sections (almost to the plant) of the farms all the way to the cup. To produce the best cup of coffee, they joked that they have stolen technology and farming methods from all over the world. And, they are constantly experimenting to ultimately improve their product. They even harvest their own seeds from the very best plants to grow their seedling coffee plants.
They go to such lengths on their “reserve” coffees that they have separate pickers, who are paid a premium, to give the cherries the utmost care. The cherries are allowed to ripen to the point just before when fermentation starts, so they are bursting with sweetness. This attention has earned them recognition from the El Salvador Cup of Excellence. We are honored to partner with coffee producers who are so focused on quality!
